The third anniversary of Hurricane Irma – September 10, 2020 – is just around the corner. This is an important milestone, as it is not only an anniversary, but also a crucial deadline.
Under Florida Statute, property insurance policyholders have three years from the date of the storm’s landfall to make their initial claim, a supplemental claim or reopen a claim. September 10, 2020, is the final deadline by which any “claim, supplemental claim, or reopened claim” must be filed in order to receive compensation for loss or damage caused by Hurricane Irma.
After September 10, 2020, by law, claims can no longer be made nor reopened. If you have a question regarding if your claim was reported, supplemented, or reopened, find out today, as tomorrow could be too late.
If You Have Already Filed, You May Still Be Owed Insurance Benefits
Unfortunately, property insurance companies don’t always honor their promises. If you have already filed a claim and your claim is not resolved, you may be entitled to further compensation. Consider whether you fall into any of these categories:
- Your claim was denied.
- Your payments were delayed.
- You feel you were underpaid.
- You believe your claim was not assessed correctly.
You should never accept the positions of the insurance company without consulting an expert. You prepared for the storm and paid your policy premium. It’s only fair you receive everything you are entitled to under your insurance policy to repair your property when it is damaged.
