David Murray Recognized By Super Lawyers® For The 5th Consecutive Year

Murray + Murray is proud to announce that we have once again been recognized in 2022 as Super Lawyers® in the practice area of insurance coverage. David Murray has been recognized by Super Lawyers® every year since 2017. Initially, David was a “Rising Star” in 2009 and again in 2012 and 2015.

Super Lawyers Selected Using Rigorous Process

Super Lawyers® is an attorney rating service owned by Thomson Reuters, who also owns Westlaw, an online legal research service. The company uses a patented process to select outstanding lawyers in each state to include on their annual list of Super Lawyers®, which appears in both regional and state editions of Super Lawyers® Magazines.

No more than five percent of the practicing attorneys in each state are featured on the list each year. Rising Stars represent no more the 2.5% of lawyers. Understanding the selection process used by Super Lawyers® may give you additional confidence that attorneys who receive this notable recognition earned their place on the list instead of buying their way onto the list.

The rigorous selection procedure used by Super Lawyers® includes a four-part selection process that begins with nominations.

Nominations

Lawyers in each state are invited to nominate other lawyers that they believe meet the criteria to be on the list. The nominations process has several safeguards to prevent cheating the system, such as lawyers cannot nominate themselves, nominations are tracked by who nominated whom, and in-firm nominations must also have at least one nomination from an attorney outside of the law firm. Each nomination is assigned a point value, with nominations by lawyers not within the same firm receiving a higher point value.

The company may add lawyers that it identifies as having outstanding reputations that it may identify during its research. Other parties may nominate lawyers for consideration, but those nominations receive no points.

Independent Research

Each candidate is thoroughly vetted and researched by the research department. The research department examines 12 indicators of achievement and recognition. Experience, verdicts, settlements, honors, awards, special certifications, and professional activity are some of the information gathered during the research phase. Some indicators carry a higher maximum point value than other indicators.

Peer Evaluation

In the third step, a panel consisting of the candidates with the highest point values from step one and step two is asked to review attorneys from their practice areas. The panelists rate the attorneys on a scale of one to five.

Final Selection

Candidates are divided into four groups based on the law firm size. The attorneys are compared and chosen based on the research, indicators, and peer review. Before a lawyer is included on the published list, the lawyer’s current standing is confirmed with the state’s licensing authority, and a final internet search is performed to ensure there are no matters that would reflect poorly on the lawyer.

According to Super Lawyers®, it has been recognized by courts and bar associations across the county for the legitimacy of its selection process. In 2008, The New Jersey Supreme Court upheld findings by a Special Master who examined the selection process. The Special Master found that the selection process was “sophisticated, comprehensive and complex.”
